“One Word Goal Setting” is a method that has grown in popularity over the last few years.
Based on the book “One Word That Will Change Your Life” by Dan Britton, Jon Gordon, and Jimmy Pag, this method is based upon the ideology of simplicity.
Harnessing the power and clarity that comes from simplifying one’s life, you can use just one word to direct your focus.
The idea is that if you cut out all of the noise, pressure, and analysis of goal setting – you have the ability to become hyper-focused on your vision for your life.
While this method doesn’t apply well to specific goals that require measurable steps and outcomes – I think this method is an amazing way to redirect your general focus.
Choosing one word as the theme of your year will guide your life in the direction that you want to go.
So how do you choose that one word?
REFLECT, BRAINSTORM, CHOOSE, & FOCUS.
REFLECT on your life – What do you want to change? What do you want to happen in your life?
What words do you associate with the vision that you have for your life? Maybe you want to focus more on family and invest more time and appreciation in meaningful interactions with those that you love.
BRAINSTORM a list of words that come to mind when you envision what that looks like. Words that you associate with your vision might be: connections, love, priorities, family, quality, gratitude.
CHOOSE your word. Which word that you brainstormed meant the most to you?
And then FOCUS on that word as a recurring theme throughout your year and in your decision-making processes. When you are faced with a choice, make choices based upon which options bring you closer to your word – and your vision!
My word for 2022 is self-care. What is yours?
